Q: I just graduated college and am looking for a job. My father has been helping me. I told him I don’t care what I do as long as I can be rich one day, and have everything I want. I asked him how much rich is, and he said to ask you. Is there a certain amount that makes you rich? What do I have to do to become rich one day?

A: Although “rich” usually involves a great deal of money, it’s also a state of being. I know people of modest means who have a great partner in life, wonderful children, good health, a pension and a nice house with no mortgage who consider themselves the richest people on earth. I have also known multimillionaires with every luxury who are stressed, lonely and unhappy, have a dysfunctional family and drink too much. Don’t envy them or their Porsche. Recognize that rich isn’t just about money.
