The Government has identified 22 ‘hot spots’ where residents are more at risk of repossession

Local councils will then be able to offer advice and support to those facing
repossession before proceedings begin. Currently, councils can offer these
services only after they have been contacted by the home owner, which often
happens too late in the proceedings.

A total of 46,750 homes were repossessed last year. Between April and June
this year, 11,400 homes were repossessed – a fall of 10pc compared with the
same quarter in 2008.
