Move your life online and save £500

The findings come after rival comparison site uSwitch revealed that people who
chose to pay for their gas and electricity once a quarter by cash or cheque
were paying on average £224 more than neighbours who set up their energy
account over the internet.

But it is not just when dealing with your energy bills that using the internet
pays. As the table shows, simply buying your car insurance and travel
insurance on the web can save you a significant amount of money.

Steve Sweeney of moneysupermarket.com said the online versus offline savings
debate continued but a click of the mouse could make a huge difference.

He said: “Our research shows how easy it is to save nearly £500 by buying your
products online. The discounts available online for insurance, and the
savings from opting for an internet-based energy account, are huge.

But he added: “The research shows that the online savings account market
isn’t what it used to be, with Coventry Building Society’s 1st Class Postal
account paying 0.05pc more than the best internet-only savings account in
the market.

“Half the battle when looking for any new product is to make sure you do your
research and shop around for the best deals. For example, the savings to be
made on car insurance just by shopping around for the best deal and not
renewing with your existing insurer …
