Martin Bamford of Informed Choice, the financial adviser, selected Artemis
Income, BlackRock UK Income and Schroders Income funds.
Artemis Income, which is yielding 4.8pc, is managed by Adrian Gosden
and Adrian Frost: “a winning partnership”, said Mr Bamford. He
added: “The fund has demonstrated consistently strong performance, with
above-average returns over the past year and first-quartile returns over
three and five years.”
Over the past five years this fund has returned 44pc, compared with a sector
average of 28pc. The fund has a 5.25pc initial charge and a 1.5pc annual
management charge. Investors can save all or most of the initial charge on
the majority of funds if they buy them through an IFA or discount broker,
however.
BlackRock UK Income has been managed by Nick McLeod-Clarke for the past
two-and-a-half years. It has produced first-quartile performance over the
past one, three and five years, Mr Bamford said.
He added: “For the year to the end of August, a very difficult year for
equity funds, it made a positive return of 2.66pc compared with a sector
average of minus 7pc. One reason I particularly like this fund is that the
manager has the flexibility to select both higher-yielding stocks and
lower-yielding stocks, so he can combine the potential for income and growth.”
The fund has a 5pc initial charge and a 1.5pc annual management charge. It is
yielding 3.72pc.
