When you open a small business account with some providers, you’ll be given access to dedicated staff members able to help you with any problems and queries you might come up against. One of the benefits of this is they will already have information on your company based on the various facilities you use with them. This means the foundation of a strong working relationship will already be in place, allowing you to be confident in speaking to them.
This person can also provide tips on all manner of things, guiding you through the obstacles and pitfalls you may face along your business journey. Essentially, you’ll be discussing the ins and outs of your company’s affairs with this expert, so it’s vital you feel comfortable with them handling your affairs. If you don’t, there’s every chance that you could fail to make full use of their skills later – which may be the time you need help the most.
Once you have set up a meeting with a dedicated member of staff, you should make sure you’re well prepared for the meeting. By having everything you need for the meeting, you’ll be able to offer them a clear picture of exactly what your plans are, what the overall budget is likely to consist of and what questions you have that need to be addressed. Being as specific as possible about this will help you get across your priorities, making it easier for them to issue reliable, realistic and useful guidance.
When discussing your plans, be as truthful as you possibly can. If you are in any way unrealistic about your expectations or oversell the success of your business, it’s highly likely you’ll only end up getting information you can’t use. But, if you feel the information you have been offered is not best suited to you, you should also remember that you do not have to take it – so don’t be afraid to challenge it.
Progress reports and catch-up meetings can be great, so make sure you understand how frequently you need to communicate with your dedicated member of staff. They should be able to discuss anything from how to apply for a business loan to what kind of expenditure you should allocate towards expansion – but setting up a schedule to address such issues will give you plenty of time to think about what you need to ask of them.
